Vaiśampāyana said: Pārtha, who had obtained the supreme bow, the two inexhaustible quivers, the chariot, the pennant and the sabhā, now spoke these words to Yudhiṣṭhira.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: पार्थ, जिसने सर्वोच्च धनुष, दो अक्षय तरकश, रथ, पताका और सभा प्राप्त कर ली थी, अब ये शब्द युधिष्ठिर से बोले।
"O king! I have obtained the bow, weapons, arrows, valour, allies, land, fame and strength. Though they are desired, it is difficult to achieve them.
"हे राजा! मैंने धनुष, हथियार, बाण, वीरता, सहयोगी, भूमि, प्रसिद्धि और शक्ति प्राप्त कर ली है। हालांकि वे वांछित हैं, लेकिन उन्हें हासिल करना मुश्किल है।
What purpose is served if one is born in noble lineage, but has no valour? O king! A kṣatriya's livelihood is always defeating the other.
यदि कोई व्यक्ति कुलीन वंश में पैदा हुआ है, लेकिन उसके पास कोई वीरता नहीं है, तो उसका क्या उद्देश्य पूरा होगा? हे राजा! एक क्षत्रिय की आजीविका हमेशा दूसरे को हराना है।
He who has valour, but lacks all other qualities, will still vanquish his enemies. What purpose is served if one possesses all the qualities, but lacks valour?
जिसके पास वीरता है, लेकिन अन्य सभी गुणों का अभाव है, वह फिर भी अपने शत्रुओं पर विजय प्राप्त करेगा। यदि किसी में सभी गुण हैं, लेकिन वीरता का अभाव है, तो क्या उद्देश्य पूरा होगा?

द्रव्यभूता गुणाः सर्वे तिष्ठन्ति हि पराक्रमे जयस्य हेतुः सिद्धिर्हि कर्म दैवं च संश्रितम्
All qualities exist in nascent form in valour. Mental concentration, enterprise and fortune are the causes of victory.
वीरता में सभी गुण नवजात रूप में विद्यमान रहते हैं। मानसिक एकाग्रता, उद्यम और भाग्य ही विजय के कारण हैं।
One who possesses the forces, but is careless, does not succeed and is not favoured by fortune. It is because of this that a powerful one perishes when confronted with his foes.
जिसके पास बल तो है, लेकिन वह लापरवाह है, वह सफल नहीं होता और भाग्य उसका साथ नहीं देता। यही कारण है कि एक शक्तिशाली व्यक्ति अपने शत्रुओं से मुकाबला करने पर नष्ट हो जाता है।
Misery encompasses those without strength and also strong ones who are deluded. A king who wishes to attain victory must forsake both these routes to destruction.
दुख उन लोगों को भी घेर लेता है जिनके पास ताकत नहीं है और वे मजबूत लोग भी हैं जो भ्रमित हैं। जो राजा विजय प्राप्त करना चाहता है उसे विनाश के इन दोनों मार्गों को त्याग देना चाहिए।

जरासंधविनाशं च राज्ञां च परिमोक्षणम् यदि कुर्याम यज्ञार्थं किं ततः परमं भवेत्
There is nothing that can surpass the act of destroying Jarāsandha and freeing the kings when achieving the sacrifice.
ऐसा कुछ भी नहीं है जो जरासंध को नष्ट करने और बलिदान प्राप्त करने पर राजाओं को मुक्त करने के कार्य से बढ़कर हो।
If we do not attempt this, we will certainly be regarded as bereft of all qualities. O king! We certainly possess the qualities. Why do you doubt our qualities?
यदि हम ऐसा प्रयास नहीं करेंगे तो निश्चय ही हम सभी गुणों से रहित माने जायेंगे। हे राजा! हमारे पास निश्चित रूप से गुण हैं। तुम्हें हमारे गुणों पर संदेह क्यों है?
Red garments are easily available to those who later wish to obtain peace of mind. But wishing to see you emperor first, we will therefore fight with the enemy."
लाल वस्त्र उन लोगों के लिए आसानी से उपलब्ध होते हैं जो बाद में मानसिक शांति प्राप्त करना चाहते हैं। परंतु पहले आपको सम्राट देखने की इच्छा रखते हुए हम शत्रु से युद्ध करेंगे।''
